When the World Feels Uncertain, Choose Kindness

“Our strength is not found in certainty, but in the courage to face uncertainty with intention.”

After yesterday’s election, some are celebrating, others are processing disappointment, and many are simply uncertain.

Yet, whether you feel uplifted or disillusioned, we all share one thing in common, none of us truly knows what lies ahead.

Even those who feel a sense of joy don’t have all the answers, just as those who feel sadness cannot predict what tomorrow may bring. But in the face of these unknowns, what we can hold onto is how we choose to respond—how we show up in the world, how we treat others, and the kindness we contribute to our surroundings. And perhaps, right now, the answer lies less in trying to predict the future than in asking what we can each do, here and now, to create the kind of world we want to see.

This is not about celebration or despair. It’s about focus. On Wednesday, life went on. Babies were born. Wedding plans still moved forward. Friends met for coffee. Parents sent their children off to school. Life, in all its beautiful and messy glory, continued forward—proving that no matter how vast our uncertainties are, the world doesn’t stop spinning. The sun rose, as it has every day before, and as it will tomorrow.

In a time when global shifts are happening rapidly—from economic uncertainty to environmental challenges, humanitarian crises, and technological leaps—it’s easy to feel at the mercy of forces beyond our control. Yet even in these unpredictable moments, we hold the power of our choices, our actions, and our responses. While we may not influence every outcome, we can decide how we show up each day, how we treat those around us, and the kindness we bring to our own corners of the world.

Our history, both national and global, has shown us resilience. Wars, crises, victories, defeats—they’ve all come and gone, yet humanity moves forward. We continue to dream, to love, to build, to fight for what matters. And if there’s anything that should bind us together, it’s that life is always moving forward. How we meet it—whether with anger, with sadness, or with kindness—is a choice we get to make every day.

We often feel powerless in the face of sweeping change, but in truth, power is found in small, everyday actions. Imagine what would happen if we all turned down the volume on our judgments and turned up the compassion. What if we each chose to be a little kinder? A little slower to judge, a little quicker to forgive? The world around us might not change overnight, but the world within us would.

This is not a call for simplicity, nor is it about dismissing valid emotions. It’s about holding onto hope and finding strength in the spaces we can control. As Gandhi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” We’ve heard these words many times, but they mean more now than ever. Change does not come from a single person in power; it grows from every act of kindness, every expression of empathy, and every commitment to being a positive force in our communities.

We can’t always choose what happens in life, but we can choose how we respond and live it. We can choose to be there for our friends, to speak kindly to our neighbors, to share a meal, to hold the door, to look for the good. These small actions are what bind us together, not our political beliefs or the color of our voting ballots.

Today, for those feeling joy, savor it. For those feeling sadness, feel it. But know that in the days ahead, what you have control over is the way you treat others, the way you show up in the world, and the kindness you put into it.

Even as unknowns stretch before us, we can face them with courage, with kindness, and with the understanding that our power lies not in controlling the future but in shaping today.

And in shaping today, you become a force for hope in tomorrow.

Remember, YOU GOT THIS!
