“Lucky people create notice, and act upon the chance opportunities in their lives. Being in the right place at the right time is actually all about being in the right state of mind.”
I remember standing in the dressing room, feeling discouraged as I tried on a dress for an upcoming black-tie event. Despite having just finished a marathon, I didn’t lose weight, I gained it! As someone who is experienced in running marathons, I know that weight loss isn’t the primary outcome. In fact, if you’re fueling your body properly, it’s quite common to gain a few pounds rather than lose them.
I knew I wasn’t going to lose 5 pounds by the weekend and at that moment that I made the decision to try shapewear for the first time, and I purchased my first pair of Spanx.
Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, is often viewed as having “just gotten lucky” when she came up with the idea for her company. However, she actually spent years working in sales and coming up with different ideas for products before she created Spanx. She also faced significant rejection from investors before finally securing funding for her company. So, was she lucky by chance? No, she was lucky by acting upon chance opportunities.
Many people believe that luck is something that happens to them by chance, and they have no control over it. However, research shows that people who consider themselves lucky are not just lucky by chance. Instead, they create notice and act upon the chance opportunities that come their way, like Sarah Blakely did.
What is it about lucky people that sets them apart from the rest of us? The answer lies in their mindset. Lucky people are more open-minded, optimistic, and resilient than others. They are also more likely to take risks and pursue their goals. These traits enable them to see opportunities where others see obstacles.
Being in the right state of mind is crucial to being in the right place at the right time. Lucky people have a positive outlook on life and are always on the lookout for new opportunities. They are open to new experiences and willing to take risks. As a result, they tend to be more successful in life.
One of the key factors that differentiate lucky people from the rest of us is their ability to create notice. They pay attention to the people and events around them, and they are always on the lookout for opportunities. They are also good at making connections between seemingly unrelated things, which helps them spot opportunities that others miss.
Acting upon chance opportunities is another important trait of lucky people. When they see an opportunity, they take action. They don’t wait for things to happen to them; they make things happen. They are proactive in pursuing their goals, and they are not afraid to take risks.
Is it a matter of luck or having courage?
- A person is browsing online and sees an advertisement for a writing contest. They think it sounds interesting but doubt their writing skills and don’t submit anything. Another person sees the same ad and decides to take a chance and enter. They end up winning the contest and getting published.
- A person sees an ad for a job opening, but they don’t feel qualified enough to apply, so they don’t. Another person sees the same ad and decides to apply even though they don’t meet all the requirements. They land an interview and impress the hiring manager with their enthusiasm and determination. They get the job over more qualified candidates.
These examples show that taking a chance can sometimes lead to unexpected and rewarding outcomes. By being open-minded and willing to try new things, these people were able to create notice of chance opportunities and act upon them in a way that led to success and fortune.
I don’t believe luck is just a matter of chance. Lucky people create notice and act upon the chance opportunities in their lives. Being in the right place at the right time is all about being in the right state of mind. If you want to be lucky, cultivate a positive outlook on life, be open to new experiences, and be willing to take risks.
With the right mindset, you can create your luck and make the most of the opportunities that come your way.
